After an "enjoyable" several hours on the phone with tech support, it has been concluded that the problem is with my video card. It'll be replaced sometime in the next few days.

Just don't get Intel. I got a nice new computer last March. SL has known problems with Intel. Although not everyone has difficulties, most of the people I know with Intel do. I now have a lovely GeForce 8500 that overrides the Intel and all is right with the SL world. :)

Oh, I'm getting the same video card I already have, not a new computer or new variety of card. Just one that, you know, works.
